Maho Nakamura

Maho Nakamura was Born in Tokyo in 1971. She arrived in France at the age of 5 years-old. Today she lives and works in Paris and her work is represented by La Galerie à venir / Laura Tendil, Paris

After a diploma in Foreign Languages and Civilizations from Paris VII – La Sorbonne, she graduated in 2000 from the School of Beaux-Arts in Paris. She studied in the painting section, and trained in the studio of French painter Claude Viallat.

She started her artistic career as a painter but in 2015 she turned towards a different practice and is now mainly focusing on the creation of ceramic sculptures.

Thanks to her unbridled imagination and great formal freedom, Maho’s creations never cease to surprise. Her sources of inspiration are multiple and varied: echoing Romanesque art, grotesque statuary as much as Pop Culture and its heroes, science- fiction, B-Series cinema, or the tradition of « Grand Siècle » earthenware.

Her works can be found in numerous private collections in France and abroad or in public collections such as the Museum of Beaux-Arts in Lyon. Her recent exhibitions include “Maho Nakamura, pain, amour et fantaisie/ Love and Fantasy Bread”, at La Galerie à venir, Paris (June 2024),” Le monde perdu/ The Lost world”, Galerie Maxime Lancien with La Galerie à venir, Saint-Brieuc, France (April 2024), “A table! #2”, at the Art Center La Villa des Illusions, Bellême, France (December 2023)
