Claire Citroën

Claire Citroën was born in 1954 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. She lives and works between Paris and Vaucluse. She studied at the National School of Fine Arts, Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris, in the painting section, from which she graduated in 1980. It was, in 1977, during a trip to the United States and a summer residence in Ox-Bow, Michigan, that she discovered sculpture. Back in Paris, she attended the workshops by the ceramist Claire Debril and by the sculptor Martine Boileau.

Working in series, Claire Citroën produced and exhibited her works of terracotta, ceramic and bronze such as "Détournements" (1980-1985), "Paysages/ landscapes" (1986-1990) or the series of "Têtes/ Heads" (1981- 1988).

In 2005, Claire Citroën started working on the botanical inventory of German photographer Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) made up of plant details such as flower buds, seeds, seminal capsules, umbels and peduncles... By magnifying details from nature, her sculptures thus emphasize growth, thrust and vital energy.

The sculptures of Claire Citroën can be found in numerous collections in France and abroad.
