Makiko Furuichi

Born in 1987 in the city of Kanazawa, Japan - known for its many districts of the Edo period - Makiko Furuichi grew up in a temple founded by her grandmother and governed by community life.
She graduated of the Kanazawa School of arts in 2009 and obtained her diploma From Nantes School of Fine Arts in 2011.


Makiko Furuichi works with different techniques including painting, drawing, sculpture, scenography and video. Grimacing faces, animals and spirits of the forest can be found in her work. Makiko's subjects reveal a world of grotesque characters, that can be called by the Japanese niyari or yokai: spirits halfway between dread and attraction.


Her most recent exhibitions include "Summer in Pleubian", La Galerie à venir, Pleubian, Brittany, (2023);  "Rue Jacob", La Galerie à venir, Paris (2023); “Chagall and I”, at the Chagall Museum in Nice (2023) FR, Pontmain Art Center (2023) in France, “Rêverie détrempée / Soggy Dreams”, at the Le Carré Art Center, in Château-Gontier sur Mayenne (2021) in France.

Her works can be found in private and public collections across the world.
